Elements of Art

It wasn’t until I became an art educator that I truly started to understand the elements of art. Sculpting in white plaster had fulfilled me as I became obsessed with form (form is emptiness and emptiness is non other than form). Suggestions of adding color to my sculptures only landed with adding charcoal-colored integral pigment. I found myself being a purist by focusing on the line that traveled through my work to create only shape and form.

Today I ponder if the elements of art were never taught to me, or if I am just now ready to understand their true purpose on my path as an artist.
